What are the most useful questions for exploring the unknown?

if say i have a topic like dance or biking or britney spears or meaning or guns or negativity or any topic at all, what are the best questions for familiarizing oneself with a topic? is there a way to categorize questions so when i go to explore a topic i know what im looking for. its kindof circular i know like how do i know what the best questions are for the topic if im exploring than i wouldnt know the questions im asking because its an exploration but as a guideline a sort of general good questions? what are some good qustions? what makes a question good? bahf
