Is it difficult to become a university lecturer in Chemistry?

All the colleges and universities I know of require a least a Masters to talk with you about a teaching position other than for their labs. They will consider a BS (For Labs), IF you are taking courses leading to your Masters. Of course if you hold a Doctorate the way to a full-time position and tenure WILL be much easier to obtain. But who says a PhD is easy to get? Not me.
